Project Embarrassing Past
A miraculous and entertaining thing has happened to me since I’ve been back home for Christmas. While searching for a cow-shaped creamer in my mother’s basement, I came across a mountain of my old sketchbooks, journals and diaries, with creation dates spanning from 1996 to my senior year of college in 2008. Amusing Conversation With Nick of the Day
Me: So Courtney is stranded at the airport.
Me: She's really upset -- she might not make it home in time for Christmas or her birthday.
Nick: That's terrible.
Me: I feel really bad for her.
Me: And also think it's odd that Beth, Liz and Courtney all had experiences like this but that my flight was 100% fine.
Nick: First time for everything.
Nick: Maybe your luck is starting to change.
Nick: Or god made a mistake because he was busy with Christmas.

Miracle on North Seventh Street
I am not a Christmas person. From an early age, the seasonal make believing in both Santa Claus and God made me uneasy. We were all atheists in my childhood home, and there was no amount of decorating, volunteering, or quality time that could change that. Christmas was a charming farce, but a farce nonetheless. My irreverence only deepened with my move to Los Angeles for undergrad. Off campus,...
